The Global Hibakusha Project

The Global Hibakusha Project is a multi-faceted ongoing research project led by Dr. robert Jacobs of the HIroshima peace institute and dr. mick broderick of murdoch university.

The work of this project is conducted in radiation-affected communities around the world. These communities may have been affected by radiation from such causes as:

–nuclear weapon testing SITES

–nuclear weapon attackS

–nuclear weapon production siteS

–nuclear weapon accidents

–nuclear power productions siteS

–nuclear power plant accidentS

THE GLOBAL HIBAKUSHA PROJECT HAS TWO PRIMARY FOCUSES:

  1. 1.A GLOBAL CROSS-CULTURAL ANALYSIS OF THE SOCIAL AND CULTURAL EFFECTS OF RADIATION EXPOSURES ON INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES. THIS WORK SEEKS TO DELINEATE BOTH THE UNIQUE SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF RADIATION EXPOSURES IN COMMUNITIES, AND ALSO TO DETERMINE THE CONTINUITIES FACING THOSE EXPOSED TO RADIATION AROUND THE WORLD.

2. TO SUPPORT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN INTERNATIONAL NETWORK OF HIBAKUSHA YOUTH UTILIZING WEB 2.0 TECHNOLOGIES AND THE TRAINING OF INTRA-COMMUNITY ORAL HISTORIANS USING LOW-TECH TOOLS SUCH AS CELL PHONES AND CHEAP CAMERAS.
